Equipment Guide · Safety-Critical
Compaction equipment — plate compactors, rammers and rollers — compresses soil, gravel and asphalt for stable bases. These are powerful vibrating machines; proper PPE and technique prevent injury.
Safety first: This equipment can be hazardous if operated incorrectly. This guide is a general overview — always follow the unit's manual, use proper PPE, and contact Allied Rental Company's team for hands-on guidance. It does not replace professional training.
Check the machine, fuel and oil before starting. Confirm the plate/foot area is clear.
Follow the unit's starting procedure (choke, throttle, pull-start or electric start).
Let the machine's weight and vibration do the work — guide it steadily rather than pushing hard.
Work in overlapping passes across the area for even compaction; multiple lighter passes beat one heavy one.
For deeper fill, compact in layers ('lifts') rather than all at once.
Idle down and shut off following the manual; let it cool before transport.
